Dog Lovers Festival

This weekend Murphy and I attended Dog Lovers Festival, a weekend of dog friendly camping and music held in the stunning grounds of Elvaston Castle.

As this was our first time camping we decided to go for one night as opposed to two, so arrived early on the Saturday morning to meet our friends Emma and Graham (the border collie). We pitched the tents (with surprising ease thanks to Emma) and quickly got round to enjoying the days events.

With stalls selling everything from Gin to doggy treats both human and hound were spoilt for choice when it came to shopping. The fun dog show (Well done Graham for first place in the fancy dress contest as Harry Potter) and numerous have a go activities including scurry, agility and hoopers meant there was something to keep everyone entertained throughout the day. Add to this the backdrop of live music from tribute acts ranging from Oasis to Lady Gaga, Billy Idol to Britney Spears and it really was the perfect day/evening. The atmosphere was amazing and it was lovely to see so many people of all ages enjoying themselves surrounded by their beloved dogs!

It was a warm weekend but the event organisers had got this covered with paddling pools, hosepipes and numerous pop up tents to provide shade and keep pups cool. Prosecco pops and special doggy ice slushes were also available to complete the festival experience!

Our evening camping with the dogs went more smoothly than I could have hoped for and both Murphy and Graham did so well! Emma and I did cheat with a visit to Domino's to bring in supper, maybe one day we will be brave enough to try a stove, or BBQ at least!

We woke early Sunday to take the dogs for a walk around the grounds of Elvaston before the gates reopened for the show. With around 320 acres of open parkland, woodland and historical gardens on our doorstep we were spoilt and it gave the dogs a great chance to burn off some energy!

Sunday saw another fun dog show (Murphy coming 3rd in waggiest tail) and all the same brilliant shops and have a go activities this time with music from tributes to Queen, Pink, Elvis and The Killers.

We would thoroughly recommend a day or weekend camping at the Dog Lovers Festival and hope to return next year to do it all again! (Note to self will take toilet roll next time and bug repellent)
